Frequently asked questions
Why are there many events for one wheel movement?
Browsers report wheel input as a stream, not necessarily one event per physical notch. Touchpads, free-spin wheels, smooth-scrolling software, and operating-system settings can produce many events.
Does a negative delta always mean the page moves up?
This page labels negative delta Y as Up and positive delta Y as Down. Application behavior, natural-scrolling settings, horizontal input, and transformed events can make another interface behave differently.
Does an unexpected direction change prove encoder failure?
No. It marks a rapid reversal in the browser event sequence. Repeat with steady movement, compare another browser, and review touchpad or smooth-scrolling software before considering device-specific support.
Why does the whole page stop while I test?
Only wheel scrolling inside the marked area is prevented so the event list remains visible. Move the pointer outside that area and normal page scrolling resumes.
